Editor's Letter

The Summer 2003 issue of EBR makes its entrance in time for the Annual BIO Convention in Washington this year - a city that has been the focus of much attention on the world stage in recent months. Politics aside, wars do not help settle global stock markets, even when relatively short in duration it seems. Thus the pain of closed stock markets continues as far as the global biotechnology industry is concerned. The more mature US market has been there, or somewhere close, before, as have certain countries in Europe. However, for the majority of European biotech companies the storm is far from over, as reflected in Ernst & Young's recently launched European Biotechnology Report 2003, reviewed in brief in this issue.

The purpose of this ACRP guidance document is not to provide a literature review or summarize the recommendations of various working groups. Instead, the Association decided it would be helpful to provide short and focused guidance which describes how to best structure the informed consent process in accordance with best practices.

ELRIG Drug Discovery 2019 – Looking Back to the Future

Now in its 13th year, ELRIG’s flagship conference Drug Discovery 2019 will take place at ACC in Liverpool. This year’s focus, ‘A Look Back to the Future’ is planned to include plenary introductions assessing how we got to where we are now and setting the challenges for discovering the drugs of the future.
