Regardless of the many medicines available for treating numerous conditions, a significant problem for healthcare systems worldwide is that patients often do not reliably take treatments as intended. Poor adherence is detrimental to both the patient and their doctor – the patient’s wellbeing does not improve, which leads to further demands on healthcare professionals. Consequently, making medicines and medical devices more patient-centric has become a key objective for the industry.

Some of the main reasons for poor compliance are forgetfulness and a lack of understanding of the instructions, particularly for the elderly. As a result, many new patientcentric initiatives involve clearer directions and ways to remind the user to take their medicines.

FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific Acquires Exclusive License for Artificial Intelligence for IVF

SANTA ANA, Calif., June 22, 2022: FUJIFILM Irvine Scientific, Inc., a world leader in the innovation, development, and manufacture of cell culture media and assisted reproductive technologies (ART), today announced it has exclusively licensed the intellectual property relating to artificial intelligence (AI) for image-based evaluation of human embryos to improve in-vitro fertilization (IVF) success rates. The technology was developed and patented jointly by investigators from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital with expertise in artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering and IVF. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
