IMA: innovation and flexibility in processing and packaging machinery

Founded in 1961, IMA is the world leader in the design and manufacture of automatic machines for the processing and packaging of pharmaceutical products and of tea in filter bags.

Its history features a constant growth that has enabled the Group to close the year 2006 with a consolidated turnover of 425.2 million Euro, more than 92% of which destined for export. Total sales of IMA are for about 83% in the pharmaceutical sector and for more than 17% in the tea sector.

The Group has about 2,700 employees, more than 1,100 of whom overseas, and can count on 16 production plants: 7 are in Italy, one in Germany, one in the UK, one in Spain, one in the USA, 2 in India and 3 in China.

IMA is present in over 70 countries, supported by a sales network made up of 9 branches (Spain, Portugal, France, the UK, Germany, Austria, the USA, China and Thailand), representative offices in central-eastern Europe and more than 50 agencies. IMA is committed in 2 production joint-ventures in China and one in Spain (IMA-Telstar) in freeze-drying machinery for the pharmaceutical industry.

In April 2007 the Group acquired all of the shares of Zanchetta Srl, a company that operates in the production of machines for the handling and granulation of pharmaceutical powders.

IMA S.p.A. has been quoted on the Milan Stock Exchange since 1995.

The following companies in the pharmaceutical sector are part of the Group: Co.ma.di.s. SpA, IMA Kilian GmbH & Co. KG, IMA Libra Srl, Nova Packaging Systems Inc., Switfpack Automation Ltd., Precision Gears Pvt Ltd., VIMA Impianti Srl.

To be able to meet customers’ requests, IMA has always invested in innovation, by launching new models of machines, incorporating the latest developments in technology, electronic and mechanical engineering and designed to ensure high production efficiency and low maintenance. IMA’s approach is not just to supply innovative and reliable machines, but mainly to be a partner for its customers, guaranteeing fast after-sales and spare parts services.

Production lines of the Group for the pharmaceutical industry:

Process and production of solid dose products: IMA offers a complete range of machines for solid dose packaging needs. These include: granulation equipment, tablet press and capsule filling machines, coating systems, checkweighers for packed products and, thanks to the acquisitions of VIMA Impianti and Zanchetta, powder handling and washing systems.

Processing and primary packaging of liquids and powder in aseptic and non-aseptic environment - Freeze drying equipment - Labeling: IMA Libra offers machines for washing and sterilising pharmaceutical vials, filling and stoppering machines for aseptic environments, filling and closing machines for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, microdosing machines for aseptic powder filling, freeze-drying machinery (IMA-Telstar), labellers, blowing machines, depackers and traying machines.

• Primary and secondary pharmaceutical packaging: IMA offers the widest range of blister machines on the market, from low to extremely high speed (up to 1,300 blisters/minute), counting machines manufactured both by IMA and by Nova Packaging Systems and Swiftpack Automation, horizontal and vertical cartoners for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, Co.ma.di.s. tube fillers suitable to fill pharmaceutical and cosmetics products.

• End of line packaging: IMA offers the widest range of end of line machines for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
