Bio^M Biotech Cluster Development GmbH (www.bio-m.org) serves as the coordinating agency of the Munich Biotech Cluster. Munich is a rapidly growing hotbed of biotech innovation with about 200 companies in the life science sector, working to improve health, the environment and agriculture. It is one of the leading European biotech regions and number one in Germany.

The Munich Biotech Cluster has grown from an excellent scientific environment with two well renowned universities, the Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the Technical University. In addition, universities of applied sciences, Max Planck Institutes of Biochemistry and of Neurobiology and the hospitals of both universities complete the bioscientific strength of the greater Munich area. The region has developed a strong focus on biopharmaceutical technologies, which led to the formation of about 100 Biotech-SMEs in the last 15 years. About half of the Munich based SMEs are developing therapeutics and/or diagnostics, mainly in the field of cancer and immunological diseases. With about 50 products in later phases of clinical investigation, the companies in the Munich Biotech Cluster are attractive partners for the international pharmaceutical industry.
