BioPharm America™ 2017—10th Annual International Partnering Conference

BioPharm America™ 2017—10th Annual International Partnering Conference

26-27 September 2017
39 Dalton Street, Boston, MA 02116

BioPharm America™ is a unique partnering event that forms the nexus of discovery and realization. Now in its tenth year, BioPharm America creates a robust exchange among hundreds of executives from venture capital firms, major pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and biotechnology companies of every size and stage, from mature to startup. The event brings dealmakers from the life science ecosystem together to engage and de-risk the enormous task of drug development.

A primary focus of BioPharm America™ is the one-to-one meetings driven by partneringONE®, the industry’s most robust software platform. Delegates can request and schedule meetings tailored to their strategic business goals to create a dynamic personalized agenda that includes regular alerts for further meeting opportunities.
The impetus behind this intensive business development activity is a two-day conference program that features thought leaders and executives from across the life science industry. To help bring attention to early stage projects and small entrepreneurial companies, BioPharm America features special tracks specifically designed for startups and young companies to get on the radar of the global life science community and to make the connections that matter. Engaging panel discussions cover topics of interest to dealmakers including licensing, investment and business development.

Leading pharmaceutical companies attend BioPharm America in search of innovation, such as Amgen, AstraZeneca, Bayer HealthCare, Biogen Idec, Boehringer Ingelheim, Genentech, Sanofi/Genzyme, Gilead, Ironwood, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Merck, Novo Nordisk, Nycomed, Pfizer, and Shire. Held in Boston each September, the event attracted 850+ delegates from 525 companies who participated in 2,350+ scheduled one-to-one meetings in 2016.

Modifying MDI Canister Surfaces to Improve Drug Stability & Drug Delivery

Presspart Manufacturing Ltd

Hydrofluoroalkane (HFA)-based propellants are widely used in modern metered-dose inhalers (MDIs), due to their lack hazardous and environmentally-damaging effects. However, an HFA's active pharmaceutical ingredient can interact with the canister substrate, causing deposition of the drug to the canister walls, or interact with the solution, causing degradation and resulting in increased impurity levels. Over the past few years, a number of surface coatings have been developed that can be applied to MDI canisters and valve components, to protect the contents from deposition and degradation. More recently, plasma processes have been developed to modify and improve the surface energy performance of a MDI canister. This approach has a number of advantages to alternative coatings but requires careful optimisation to ensure the highest quality finish and MDI performance. Richard Turner, Business Development Director, Presspart Manufacturing Ltd, explains.
