This article aims to give an overview of the direction in which the distribution industry is developing and the options available for companies requiring improved performance from their temperature controlled packaging (TCPs) and also companies requiring this type of specialised packaging in relation to their new products.
The Future for the Industry is in Temperature Sensitive Products
Recently, Lehman Brothers research reported that four out of the six big US drug groups are heading for zero growth. This change from the steady 10 per cent growth seen just a few years ago is partially due to the number of drugs coming off patent and not being replaced by new patented drugs. The drugs coming off patent are usually faced with a number of generic 'substitutes' at reduced prices. Many pharma companies such as Novartis - who are faced with generic copies of their own products in the marketplace - are continuing to invest in these generic manufacturers to hedge their position.
