The biopharmaceutical industry, by necessity, has long been part of 'the global society' and as Giddens points out in his speeches on globalisation, is partially responsible for its development as a "technological imperative".
Increasingly, biopharmaceutical organisations and companies (of whatever size) are looking for global collaborators, in research and development, clinical trials, supply chain and logistics in order to standardise and globalise, as well as to facilitate management of their processes. In order to achieve global status, the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries (from the research scientist to the procurement specialist, and the QA department to the board of directors), need to find like-minded partners that can help drive their growth, and nowhere is this more evident than in their relationship with the logistics industry. However, are biopharmaceutical companies looking for the most suitable global logistics partners?
