Logistics with Integrity

Today’s pharmaceutical industry faces an ever increasing challenge in delivering precious human diagnostic blood samples from clinical trials back to the central laboratories for screening within 24 to 48 hours of the sample being drawn from a subject. Human blood has a limited lifespan and deteriorates rapidly outside of the body; this can result in testing such as key haematology tests not being possible.

With clinical trials being conducted in new markets and far-afield countries, the logistics involved in the supply of IATA-compliant packaging and dry ice (if samples are to be kept frozen) to the investigator sites; assistance with packaging; collections as late as possible in the day; and arranging the return transport to the central laboratory within 24 to 48 hours in order to maintain stability, all become even more logistically challenging. The specialist bio-pharm courier companies have risen to this challenge and developed a range of solutions to meet these challenges.
