Dr Jorge Sassone received his PhD in Chemistry from Buenos Aires University in Argentina. Between 1989 and 1994, he was Professor of Advanced Qualitative and Quantitative Chemistry, Radiochemistry and Nuclear Chemistry at FCEN-UBA, Argentina. His current position is Chairman at Improvement-Proquimo in São Paulo, Brazil. He has over 20 years’ experience in R&D in pharmaceutical and veterinary manufacturing. He is a member of the ISL PAT executive committee, and has had one book published; another is currently in progress.

Enric Jo received his Degree and PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona (Spain), and his doctorate thesis focused on the lyophilisation process. He has worked at the Biopharmacy Department of the College of Pharmacy in Barcelona. Over the past 16 years, he has been at Reig Jofré Group. He has worked as GMP Adviser for the Inspection Service of the AEMPS for four years. He currently collaborates in the ISL-FD, and is an active partner of associations such as the PDA and ISPE.

Laura Noguera gained her degree in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona, and her Masters in Pharmaceutical and Parapharmaceutical Industry from CESIF, before completing her doctorate in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Barcelona. Since 2004, she has collaborated in QA at Reig Jofré Group, and she is currently the QA Manager in the Production Areas at the Barcelona plant.

JR Mullick has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 49 years, of which he has spent two years in formulation development, 24 years in production, seven years in planning logistics and regulatory matters, and eight years in senior QA positions. Since retiring as QA Manager at Infar India Limited in 2001, he has been working as a consultant for facility design, commissioning qualification, training, and other GMP-related issues. He is currently working with Klenzaids, as Consultant, Pharma Projects. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, is a member of Executive Committee on PAT at ISL, and is also an active member of ISPE.

Lynparza recommended for approval in EU by CHMP for BRCA-mutated metastatic pancreatic cancer

AstraZeneca and MSD Inc., Kenilworth, N.J., US (MSD: known as Merck & Co., Inc. inside the US and Canada) today announced that Lynparza (olaparib) has been recommended for marketing authorisation in the European Union (EU) for the 1st-line maintenance treatment of patients with germline BRCA-mutated (gBRCAm) metastatic pancreatic cancer. The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) based its positive opinion on results from the Phase III POLO trial, which were published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
