Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Packing Sourcer

Configurable Solutions

Today’s pharmaceutical packaging landscape is complex, with new requirements, products and market demands surfacing continuously. Although manufacturers are meeting these challenges every day, they regularly turn to contract packagers to handle particular situations, such as specialised packaging, overflow, volume and serialisation of high value products. Contract packagers manage these responsibilities for numerous products per line, confronting the toughest vision inspection, line management and serialisation in the pharmaceutical industry.

With over 75 customers and 10 or more products and various different package configurations to handle on any given day, one leading contract packager undertakes these demands daily. Recently, this company decided to look for a packaging information management platform that would ensure protection of their customers’ products, while optimising their packaging services. Since packaging requirements are becoming increasingly more complicated, contract packagers and manufacturers alike may find it beneficial to evaluate this company’s approach to choosing a solution that enables them to overcome their packaging challenges.

The packager knew that the only way any solution could effectively handle the demands of their packaging environment was if it was flexible. Therefore, they selected a packaging execution system (PES) platform to address vision inspection, line management and serialisation. A PES is a single system that integrates all critical packaging line information systems. In order to maximise efficiency and invest in a solution that they could use continually when addressing various manufacturers’ needs, the packager employed a PES that is configurable, scalable and repeatable.
