There is a particularly eclectic selection of articles in this month’s edition. If there is a common theme, it is the constant change in technology, working practices and market forces that we face in the healthcare industry.

We have become accustomed to the fact that outsourcing is the way forward for many companies to remain competitive, but now we hear a very convincing argument from Michael P Trova and Joachim Kaus at AMRI that insourcing can offer a greater business advantage.

Meanwhile, the cold chain logistics sector has expanded dramatically in recent years to handle the rapid growth in the biologics market and, subsequently, we have seen technological advances in packaging design for the temperature control of products during transit. However, Dr Jean-Pierre Emond and Melissa Germain of The Illuminate Group draw our attention to the need for considering exactly what is required for the shipment of temperaturesensitive materials.
