Taking the Lead

The packaging industry has long been an early adopter of environmental practices, ensuring the latest processes and materials are used in order to protect the environment. Today, however, a robust approach to responsibility is not limited to the management of environmental impacts. Labour rights, worker welfare, safety and hygiene, good governance, and ethics are also vital parts of the responsibility story for pharmaceutical packing.

In 2006, a group of pharma and healthcare companies joined forces with a vision for better social, health, safety, and environmental outcomes in the communities they buy from. This group is called the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI), a nonprofit organisation led by its members. In the last five years, membership has more than doubled to a total of 40, and growing, including 19 of the top 20 pharma companies by revenue.
