Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Packing Sourcer
|
Safety is a primary concern throughout the pharmaceutical sector, and the application of foil seals on containers has, over recent years, become an essential component in many manufacturers' packaging strategies. Applied using induction sealing, these foils provide tamper evidence, prevent the ingress of moisture and oxygen, eliminate leakages and prolong product freshness. This has led to consumers and manufacturers alike now accepting foil seals as the industry standard.
The foil seal applied during the induction process has superior barrier properties when compared to the expanded polyethylene (EPE) liner traditionally used as a barrier in child-resistant closures (CRCs). This was clearly demonstrated in recent tests, where the best water vapour transmission rates achieved using an EPE liner were in the range of 1.5 to 6gsm at 380C over a 24-hour period, whereas those achieved using an induction sealed foil liner were <0.01gsm. In effect, by adding a hermetic foil seal, you can consistently achieve low transmission rates, while at the same time eliminating the risk of egress/ingress across the container neck, inherent in any seal which is simply compressed onto a container.
