Logistics is a nuts and bolts business - it's all about details and getting those details correct every time. But how can a logistics department be used to set you apart from your competitors? In this article I intend to pass on some advice that I have learned through my 20 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
I am sure you are aware that in the pharmaceutical industry, your supply chain is vital to your business. For your customers, a quality service means receiving the correct product at the correct time. You also know it's essential that it's available at the right price and this means driving efficiencies all the way through the supply chain; from purchasing and stock control, right through to your picking, packing and delivery. But how do you make this process seamless; one that works all the time?
There are five principles which I think are essential for this process to run smoothly. Once you've mastered these, you should be significantly closer to providing a much more efficient service. These principles are ones that I have found do work, time after time, in companies that have truly successful logistics operations.
