For once the professional fortune tellers are in agreement - pharmaceuticals look set to provide a rare opportunity for significant growth in an otherwise difficult market for process automation suppliers over the coming years. This article will attempt to explain the reasons for this and looks at some of the latest technology available for use throughout the pharmaceutical industry.
According to a recent report from US-based pundits at the ARC Advisory Group, the global pharmaceutical and food and drink industries will provide the biggest growth opportunities for automation suppliers until at least 2006. The growth in the total automation market limped along at less than one per cent in 2000-2001 and ARC expects this to reach an average of just 3.4 per cent a year through to 2006. Larry O'Brien, ARC's Director of Research for the process industries, says: "In this environment of limited growth, the food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries will offer the strongest potential opportunity in the long term."
