Packaging has a number of important roles. It has to contain the product, protect and preserve it and provide information about the contents and their usage. Pharmaceutical products in particular are subjected to multiple handling through wholesalers, distributors, pharmacies and retailers and so packaging needs to be carefully selected. In addition, the information contained within and on packaging is possibly more important within this sector than just about any other industry.
