Water-Soluble Packaging - An Exciting Future

Water-soluble packaging has enjoyed a resurgence of interest from manufacturers, retailers and marketing professionals alike, as technology has taken capabilities far beyond anything previously imagined. The pharmaceutical industry recognised the importance of these developments and, in recent years, has pushed for even further advancements to be made to meet their individual requirements.

However, there are hardly any products, which do not come into contact with packaging during manufacture, distribution, storage or use. Pharmaceutical products are certainly no exception to this and packaging plays a particularly important role within this sector.

Packaging has a number of important roles. It has to contain the product, protect and preserve it and provide information about the contents and their usage. Pharmaceutical products in particular are subjected to multiple handling through wholesalers, distributors, pharmacies and retailers and so packaging needs to be carefully selected. In addition, the information contained within and on packaging is possibly more important within this sector than just about any other industry. Pharmaceutical packaging buyers and specifiers have to investigate their requirements in as much detail as any other sector and this thoroughness by the industry has led to many changes in practice and new developments over the last few decades.
