As hydraulic-driven centrifuges become outmoded and with the cost of a brand new centrifugal being in excess of present day budgets, for many industries the option of purchasing refurbished equipment has become a lifeline. This article will outline the benefits of refurbishment for the pharmaceutical industry.
Today's demands on the pharmaceutical industry to quickly bring new product lines onto the marketplace have placed huge constraints on planning. This has severely limited the plant manager's ability to continue to implement expansion programmes with their usual systematic approach.
Therefore, in an industry which is driven by time and budget constraints, it has been necessary to find an alternative to purchasing new equipment which must be built to specification and can take between six and nine months to supply.

Roger Beaumont is Managing Director of Broadbent Customer Services Limited, the customer service arm of international centrifuge company, Thomas Broadbent & Sons Ltd.
Roger began his career within the centrifugal industry in the 1960s, working in various roles within Broadbent before setting up the service centre 23 years ago, building it up from a small team of engineers to a full service centre. Roger is also responsible for the control and expansion of Broadbent's US operation in Fort Worth, Texas, and maintains a watching brief on all aspects of Broadbent's service operation, including heath and safety procedures, risk assessments and recruitment.
