Contract Manufacturing from India

With the global meltdown in profits, many international pharma companies are moving towards cost containment through acquisitions, mergers and collaborations. As globalisation and outsourcing increase, developing and transnational economies have had new opportunities to provide these companies with critical services, such as extended manufacturing and R&D support bases on very cost-effective and reasonable terms without their infrastructure having to set them up from scratch. Both the contractors and service providers need to know which factors and strategies can help them succeed in this business of interdependence.

Slimmed down companies who are sharply focused on their core business have looked to outsource an increasing number of non-core functions. This trend alone is increasing the range of services that external consultants are providing to companies in the industry.

The biggest concern for international contractors about outsourcing services is poor quality work. Potential clients will need to be convinced that local operators are used to working to international quality standards. Registration to the international quality management standard ISO 9000 will be one way of demonstrating this capability. Potential clients will also want to know that local firms are aware of international benchmarks and standards of practice, and can meet or surpass them.
