Editor's Letter

The expression 'think globally, act locally' has become a clichй. If you are not tapping into global opportunities then you are missing out and are blind to your competition. In Europe particularly, we have so many different cultural facets and practices, while over 50 per cent of all our contract secondary manufacturers are small to medium-sized local enterprises. However, I am impressed with the dynamism and flexibility of many of these companies in their ability to deal with global issues in manufacturing. The development of the Internet has certainly helped, but it has also posed challenges. Some global issues, such as the role of manufacturing and supply by David Webber, global manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit products by Timothy Trainer and multilingual translations using the Internet by Dolores Birlanga are reviewed in this Summer issue of PMPS.
