Disposable manufacturing technologies are being developed that optimise biopharmaceutical drug production by eliminating the need for the conventional cleaning, autoclaving and steam sterilisation of equipment. These products include new gamma pre-sterilised flow paths, reservoirs, storage containers, sterile filters, connecting devices that achieve the highest level of plant safety by making the sterile parts free of operator intervention, and eliminating the aseptic assembly of equipment.
For dispensing sterile injectable drugs, ophthalmics and large-volume parenterals, disposable filling systems are now available that allow faster filling-line implementation, easier validation and ensured sterility to the point of product introduction into the sterile vial. Disposable filling lines offer the complete disposal of all product contact surfaces and eliminate the need for equipment cleaning cycles. This availability minimises downtime between filling campaigns and provides for added operator and product safety by completely containing the drug.
