As a major supplier to the pharmaceutical industry, it is very tempting to sit back and relax about our products and their applications, stating "the client knows us, they know our products, they know how to use them - what more could they need?" Unfortunately (or fortunately) the world is an ever-changing place and the way in which industry uses and manufactures products is also ever-changing. Therefore it is essential to study trends and predict what is around the corner for the manufacturer of any product, especially one at the cutting edge, as in our case; the supply of equipment based around isolation technology.
Our starting point for this exercise is usually the hotly disputed issues and FAQs at seminars and press releases in the trade magazines. It is also evident that trends can be discerned by looking back to analyse past events and then by extrapolation project them forwards with a little imagination. Even with the best minds and facts at hand, it is unlikely that immediate trends will become apparent. However in the longer-term, broader features will appear. The following categories are likely to feature prominently: automation, globalisation, rationalisation and harmonisation.
