Each interface in the distribution network, from procuring raw materials to supplying the end consumer, is a potential point for counterfeit products to enter the supply chain of companies. Transshipment points like warehouses and logistics service providers are particular targets of counterfeit attacks. Hence it is becoming increasingly difficult to control the flow of goods. This is the reason why effective brand protection needs to start with efficient supply chain management.

What is easily overlooked when discussing the topic of brand and product counterfeiting is the issue of how counterfeit products are distributed to the end consumer.
