Child-Resistant/Senior-Effective Blister Card - The Key to Patient Compliance

This article presents an overview of the thought process typically used to select the proper therapy for a disease state. It shows the deductive reasoning and rationalisation used for each decision. Despite this care, the rate of non-compliance with prescribed regimens is 50 per cent or more and this non-compliance adds to the costs of medical care. Through use of a properly constructed child-resistant/senior effective blister card, compliance with the therapeutic regime can be improved. With improved compliance comes a decrease in health care costs and an increase in quality of life.

Also highlighted in this article are the potential benefits that society stands to gain from the use of child-resistant packaging, for instance the prevention of poisonings and the decrease in related deaths.

Despite press reports and opinions to the contrary, most physicians, nurses, pharmacists and caregivers must overcome a plethora of obstacles to ensure that the medical delivery system is the best it can be. Compliance with prescribed and selected regimes is the goal of these medical providers, although the definition of medication compliance has become more and more precise over time.

He is an inventor, having been granted 12 patents, and a speaker on the topics of child-resistant packaging, clinical supplies, medication and treatment compliance and pharmaceutical development. Joseph still practices retail pharmacy and is also a Consultant Pharmacist.
