Tired of pushing hand hygiene standards?

Teknomek Ltd

Why not try a simple pull instead?

Teknomek’s sanitising door handles offer a new level of support for hygiene routines in the pharmaceutical sector. The new products automatically release virucidal hand gel when pulled, helping prevent pathogens from being brought into laboratories and sterile environments.

Sue Springett, commercial manager at Teknomek, explains: “80 per cent of infections are spread by touch and research from the British Toilet Association identified that only one in three people always washes their hands after using the loo.

“The greatest challenge to establishing the type of business-wide hygiene culture that will satisfy MHRA auditors can come down to one factor hygiene managers have little direct control over - staff’s personal hygiene. While signage in key areas such as changing rooms and wash rooms goes some way to addressing this, you cannot force people to wash their hands.

“By applying sanitising gel direct to a person’s hands through the simple act of opening a door, this system solves that problem once and for all. You cannot underestimate the value of boosting a company’s hygiene standards because the weakest point has been so comprehensively addressed.”

The sanitising gel used in the door handle eliminates MHRA, as well as other harmful viruses and bacteria including campylobacter and listeria. Independent swab testing found users’ hands were 87 per cent cleaner after using the gel dispensing handles. It is non-perfumed and non-tainting and is tested to EN1500, EN13727, 12054 and EN14476 (virucidal) for hand rubs.

Sue Springett concludes: “The SoP for sanitising hands is built into the simple action of opening the door. Therefore it’s a sensible move to place gel dispensing handles as a last line of defence at the entrance to clean rooms and other hygiene controlled areas. However, the broader potential is to use them as part of a cumulative hygiene strategy throughout a facility. Installing these systems at points of entry reduces opportunities for contaminants getting into the building in the first-place.

“The deployment of these products also makes an impact on auditors, highlighting that hand hygiene is taken extremely seriously throughout all areas of the site. It is this type of intelligent design that brings greater peace of mind for hygiene control and infection containment.”
