York Health Economics Consortium offers an updated training event

Identifying Evidence for NICE Economic Submissions Training Day

Health economics evidence is a key element in much health services research and particularly in health technology assessments, including submissions for NICE single technology appraisals. Identifying economic evidence to inform submissions involves searches in a range of databases and uses a variety of strategies.

YHECís one-day Identifying Evidence for NICE Economic Submissions course, running on the 5th September 2018, provides an introduction to key databases and search approaches. It includes a Ďjargon busterí session on the basics of health economics and economic models. It also features presentations about key economics information resources including the CEA Registry, and explorations of approaches to searching to identify data for economic models. With the closure of key economic evaluation databases (NHS EED and HEED), we will be focusing on how to identify economic evaluations from major bibliographic databases such as MEDLINE. There will be opportunities for hands-on practice, and by the end of the training day participants will have:

  • An awareness of the basic concepts of health economics and economic models
  • An understanding of the content and approaches of selected key health economics resources
  • An awareness of the search options available to access these resources
  • Experience of searching the resources

This study day would be of interest to researchers and information professionals seeking more insight into the sources of health economics information and its uses.

Price: £200 +(£40 VAT). Registration fee includes tea and coffee, lunch and course documentation. Paying by PayPal will confirm your place immediately.

Biosimilars In Emerging Markets: Is It A Level Playing Field?

PRA Health Sciences (PRA)

Governments, healthcare payers, and social and health reforms, combined with the increased incidence of conditions such as cancer and diabetes are paving the way for increased uptake of biologic medicines in emerging markets. However, expensive biologic medicines can be prohibitive to many patients, creating a high level of unmet clinical need. At its best, the global expansion of biosimilars can mean a robust and steady supply of existing and new drugs reaching far-flung patient populations, but localized biosimilar drug developments, especially in China and India, combined with a lack of robust pharmacovigilance systems, threaten to derail the industry by putting patient health at risk.
