Teknomek reports 56% increase in bespoke orders
20 November 2024 – Hygienic furniture and equipment specialist Teknomek, has today reported a 56% increase in bespoke orders, demonstrating that the pharmaceutical and cleanroom sectors are investing in specialist, customised hygienic equipment and furniture that is playing an active part in improving GMP.
The 56% increase on Teknomek’s bespoke and customised order targets for the year comes predominantly from the pharmaceutical and laboratory industry, along with construction and engineering partners. 316-grade stainless-steel, often with the addition of electropolishing, is the material of choice for those businesses adhering to rigorous hygiene standards such as ISO14644 cleanroom requirements. But, even in less controlled environments, Teknomek has also seen many customers opting to upgrade products such as tables, lecterns, washroom furniture and sinks, storage and handling furniture and changing room equipment from 304-grade stainless-steel to 316-grade. 316-grade stainless steel has additional hygienic properties and durability due to enhanced corrosion resistance.
Michelle Locke is product and marketing manager at Teknomek. “We often hear the phrase ‘fit for purpose’ used, but in ultra-hygienic and high-risk industries where the risk of contamination is top of mind, every piece of equipment or furniture needs to be not just ‘fit’ but ‘perfect for purpose’,” Michelle says. “To support GMP and ensure a hygienic culture runs through every part of their organisation, we are seeing more and more customers requesting customisations to our own-manufactured product range as well as completely bespoke orders being on the rise.
“Because of our on-site design and manufacturing capability, Teknomek can solve even the most complex challenges when it comes to hygienic, stainless-steel furniture,” continues Michelle. “We recently designed a bespoke changing room bench for a pharmaceutical client. A bench would usually provide a solid barrier between two sides of the changing room, but this one has a section that lifts up to allow wheelchair users to pass through. For another client we have devised a stainless-steel cabinet to fit around a marble antivibration weighing table and a range of ergonomic furniture to make maximum use of its limited cleanroom space and respond to the needs of technicians working within the space.”
One of Teknomek’s most notable bespoke orders over the last few months was for 64 ergonomic height adjustable tables. “We adapted our standard ergo table for a customer in the Middle East, upgrading the material to 316-grade stainless steel and meeting a very specific size requirement.,” explains Michelle.
“As regulations become more stringent, production costs increase and their clients become more demanding, the customers we support have to find ways to work even more efficiently. Opting for completely bespoke or customised hygienic furniture has many benefits: helping to ensure compliance, facilitate contamination control, optimise workflow efficiency, maximise space usage, and enhance staff safety and working conditions. What’s more, an investment in kit that is designed to save time on cleaning as well as having longer life span will ultimately help a business to save money,” concludes Michelle Locke.
